Fishing Report From Forgotten Coast Charters 6/28/04

I can't believe I've already been back from the Bahamas for a month. The memories of two months of Island hopping on "Jolly Mon" will last a lifetime.  The hot billfish action off Chub in late March,  the big wahoos, tunas and dolphin off of Tarter Bank & Columbus point out from Hawks Nest,  and the fat 85lb yellowfin out of Sumner Point Marina on Rum Cay.

Inshore the bonefish was the main course.  And thank goodness because you can't go offshore everyday allthough the first month we came pretty close.  Even though I didn't get a chance to fish Andros on our brief stop, there were plenty of fish in Hawks Nest Creek ( a fat 8 pounder ! ),  Salt Pond on Rum, the flats on the North and South ends of Harbour Island,  and Great Abaco down near Little Harbour.

I gained 5 pounds from cracked conch, lobster, sushi and too much Rum!  I met some new friends and fished with old friends.  I went to thirteen different bahamian Islands and caught fish at all of them.  I missed my wife and daughters more than I could have imagined and am glad to be back home for a while but the memories and pictures will last a life time.

Since I've returned the weather and fishing has been excellent!   Last week the Winstanleys  from Atlanta joined me for a tarpon trip.  Although it took a while to find them by noon we had landed an 80 - 100 pounder on lite spinning gear and jumped another.   The Big Bend Saltwater Classic last weekend had beuatiful weather and calm seas.  Wahoo and dolphin made there way to our gaff along with scamp, gags, red groupers, snappers and big B- liners. The money fish got away at the boat due to being foul hooked on the belly.  He was a fat wahoo of 50 pounds + and right about the time he surfaced Capt. Clark who was fighting the fish yelled "he's foul hooked", the large silver bullet rolled over, pulled the hook and sank in to the depths.  What can you do!

This past week there were plenty of trout and spanish mackeral for the Wilkes family from Georgia on Thursday.  More wahoo action in the deep water with a nice 40 pounder and 25 pounder along with scamp and snapper on the "Paradox" Friday and Saturday.   It was grouper galore aboard the "Jolly Mon" on Sunday with a bonus 25lb dolpin who decided to hit a blue runner on the bottom (what the heck?)

The fishing is hot so get out and catch em!
